Justin wanted business headshot to use PR website and publication. I really liked the background – beautiful color but the lighting for this image was fairly tricky. I used window light as a rim light and background light and added some warmth to the image with one medium softbox to the left with 1/4 CTO gel. His office was not big so controlling the light was the hardest part.

On Camera Microphone + Portable Recorder
Battery powered on camera microphones are easy to use and good solutions for capturing high quality sounds. I’ve been using Rode videomic for some time but soon ditched it away due to poor build quality . It’s made of plastic and the shock mount system is held together by rubber bands. I’ve been shooting some video with simply wired lavaliere mic connected to Olympus DS-40. Here’s my post .
azden smx-10 connected to Zoom H4N
The video mic I have now is Azden SMX-10: light weight and short in length. It is a lot easier to carry and sound quality is decent. Azden SMX-10 is connected to Zoom H4N to record long period of time. I also use a splitter out of Zoom H4N (line): one for mic input to Canon 5D Mark II and the other for monitoring sound. It may not be the the best audio solution as it picks up lens motor as well as handling noise. But I think it’s great solution for covering events and news coverage (it’s still better than built in camera mic).

{Wedding Photography | San Antonio : Janice & James}
I get to photograph a lot of outdoor wedding recently. With hot summer whether in San Antonio, I have to travel light. Things that I leave behind when I shoot solo: 100 macro lens, fish eye, and my lighting gear. First image, I used lens baby instead of 100 macro. It’s really small and light that can fit on my pocket.

I’d love to bring Elinchrom ranger to shoot outdoor portrait but it was practically not possible. I decided to use hyper-sync sync with just one 580 EXII flash.

{Medical Photographer San Antonio | Soobumim Photography}
Medical photography is challenging because I have no idea of knowing how the (surgery) rooms gonna be like: it’s usually small and lit with green fluorescent light. Also, I have to work fast. When I photograph doctors, athletes, etc, I only have 10~15 min to finish. My setup is pretty simple: one 28″ Westcott Apollo softbox on camera left and a grid behind to the right to simulate sun light coming off the windows. Softbox takes more time to setup but I like to control the light in fairly tight space.
