I am photographing this year’s Les Schwab Invitational Basketball Tournament as much as I can. Most interesting game was Cardinals vs Lakers game. Lincoln reached the state title game last season. Here’s some of the today’s photo.

Here are few of the senior pictures I’ve taken yesterday at the downtown Portland waterfrtont . Weather was surprisingly nice. It was actually little too bright to photograph throughout the day. Both images were shot with 580 EXII camera on left triggered by Pocket Wizard Flex TT5.

Ceara class of 2010
I needed more light to overpower the sun. I used Elinchrom Quadra almost in full power on camera left.

And another photograph using 580 EXII triggered by Pocket wizard FlexTT5. I like to use this setup whenever possible.

Senior Portraits
I had a photo shoot around 2PM at the Tanner Springs Park. The park is located around the buildings but there’s no shade area! I had to use off camera flash to fill / overpower the sun. I like to bring 1D MK3 during sunny summer days since it can sync up to 1/300 (1/500 with new pocket wizard)

As you can tell, flash is on my Left at full power and sun is behind Xander. Xander is nice person to photograph with and I think he can be a good model in the future. Next time, I will bring a tri-grip reflector so that my flash doesn’t have to work so hard.

Here, again sun’s in subject’s behind. I like unique background
Had a photo shoot around 2 at the small park. We had little cloud and plenty of sunshine. I don’t like to use daylight as a main light source. It causes deep shadow and round the eyes are always dark. I moved the subject next to the tree so that my small flash didn’t have to work too hard. I had my trusty 1D Mark III with 24-70 and lighting gear was canon 580 EXII + pocket wizard II. Nick wanted to have portfolio with strong muscular image. I could have used two light source with grids from behind act as a kicker light and use a beauty dish as a main light source. This will require large lighting gear + 1 assistant. In this shot, however, I used just 1 light source with shoot through umbrella just outside of the frame: soft yet directional lighting.

Another photo shot with canon 85L 1.2 wide open.
I had a senior session with Jules. He’s very talented football and rugby player. Weather was just perfect and it was near sunset at the Aloha high school. I shot with just one 580 EXII on either side of camera and was about 1/4 power. Since it was close to sunset, I didn’t need too much of power.

Another high school senior photography at the local park. It was probably the hottest day. Sky is blue and so clear. Shot with canon 17-40 F4 lens. I didn’t need fast glass since I used aperture around F8. Shot with just one 580 EXII.

we found some shade area. l like to shoot in the park because I can shoot in green background with out bringing backdrops.

Lot of things going on at the waterfront this summer. Jazz festival, good food etc. We found the place where not many people passing by. Can’t move the boat behind Colleen. Instead I decide to include the boat – looks like a vacation photo. The sun is on my right and I had to balance the sun light. Again, I am dealing with harsh shadow. Umbrella was not an option since the wind was blowing like 15 MPH and don’t want my $400 Canon 580 EXII to drop on the sand or water. It was on full power, no gel, strait to Colleen from camera left (I needed use all the power I’ve got). I shot Raw so that I can brighten up her left face a little.
