I photographed an awesome engagement session at pearl San Antonio Texas.
It was perfect place for the e-session and I absolutely love the painted wall.
We had a perfect weather last night. Finished our session at the river walk. Shot at ISO 3200 with one LED light.

I got a call from Jay who’d like to propose next day and want engagement photography taken at the Alamo. I was very excited and he and I’ve been emailing back and forth all night planning things out. Jay wanted some of photo taken at the riverwalk and lastly he wanted to do some modern look: something like he and his girlfriend walking across the street at night. So I planned and arrived at the Alamo waited for the couple to show up. Shoot some candid photo. Felt like paparazzi or something. It was completely surprise for Jennifer and engagement session went really well. Took some photo in front of the Alamo. No real fancy lighting. A lot of them shot with natural lighting and canon 580 EXII triggered by pocket wizard. I also used LED light and this thing is great for focus and add accent light on subject. Also, I did some fusion style approach with Canon 5D Mark II. Most of my package including family, engagement, and wedding comes with complementary video and this is great tool for me to tell the story. I think engagement session should be able to tell the story of the couple and this fusion approach (still + audio + video ) is awesome way. Check out this video on HD.

It was my last engagement session in Portland before I move down to San Antonio Texas. Supposed to rain today but we had some break here and there. Most of photos were just available light. With overcast weather , I decide to make whole background turn blue by changing white balance setting to “Tungsten”. Even with grey sky, I had to power up close to full power on my Elinchrom Ranger Quadra to create dark dramatic look. Quick 40 min session with Ilana & KC and there wasn’t hardly anyone out there even though it was Sat afternoon.
E-session at the downtown portland waterfront area. Originally thought about hard fashion kind of look. Then decide to use softer light (video light). We brought Alienbee 1600 along with Vegabond power pack. Modeling light is great balancing night seen with subject. It doesn’t look like flash and I think it looks more flattering. Only modifier I used was a beauty dish. It’s great in Oregon. Vegabond can be used as a expensive sand bag. I am impressed with 5D Mark II. I don’t see much of noise (I shot ISO at 2000). Weather was perfect and hope we have weathers like this rest of the year.

Cloud looked nice and I wanted to create some dramatic look. Alienbee 1600 powered by Vegabond II. Only light modifier I used was a beauty dish (I gaffer taped 1/2 CTO inside).
The place we usually do engagement session is Portland downtown waterfront. It gets kind if crowded during weekend. There’s 2~3 other photographers shooting weddings and seniors. We brought Alienbee 1600 and Vegabond to overpower the harsh Sun and lighting was pretty much concentrated to subject face ~ torso to create more dramatic look using grid. Here’s some of the final
